Prayer Yoga
A Path of Mastery
with  Solana

"This is a beautiful offering for anyone
wishing to deepen  their spiritual life.
I'm sure it will benefit many people. "

Prayer Yoga, A path of Mastery
Reviewed  by Yoga Journal Review November 2002
Devotion (bhakti) has long been a central practice of the yoga tradition, but this is the first video we've seen that applies devotion, in the form of spoken prayers, directly to asanas. (Iyengar says, "The body is my temple, asanas are my prayers.")
Solana, an ordained minister and Reiki master got her idea for Prayer Yoga in meditation. Her presentation begins with a 20 minute introduction to her method, based on Patanjali's eight-limbed practice, especially his yamas and niyamas, which Solana calls the 10 "Universal principles for a fulfilling life." Each of these principles is assigned its own prayer; for example, the prayer for brahmacharya is,”May I live a life of balance.” In turn, each principle/prayer dyad is embodied in one of the asanas in the practice of sequence. The entire 55-minute session consists of a Sun Salutation, Tree Pose, and side bending Half Moon, Cobra, Locust, and Bow Pose, two seated forward bends, Bridge Pose and Shoulderstand, Fish Pose, and a seated twist. Following this is a long guided relaxation and 10 minute chant-fest.
Solana has an interesting idea, using prayer and its related asana movement as a means of self-questioning (self-study or swadhyaya) and self-affirmation. She has the enthusiastic presence of a true believer. Her instructions are fairly simple, her pace is a little too slow to suit me. But if you have a strong devotional urge and have been searching for a way to express it through your physical practice, then you’ll surely want to look at this tape.

Napra Review, May, 2001

Solana exhibits such intensity that it is clear her words come from the heart. An enjoyable experience.

This is a beautiful offering for anyone wishing to deepen their spiritual life. I'm sure it will benefit many people.

 Very enlightening February 15, 2002

I have personally taken a few yoga classes in the past and found that we jumped right into the different postures which
is quite uncomfortable (physically and mentally) when you are not sure of what you are doing.
Solana goes through a yoga "lesson" if you will, explaining the meaning behind the posture and where to guide our heart and spirit while we are in posture.
This video moves slowly but personally that is what I was looking forward to.
She is gentle with her students and gives you a true chance to learn.
If your looking for power yoga this is not it. If you are wanting to get in touch with the spirit and quiet your mind while opening your heart to your higher power, I think you will be very happy with this video.
